AICTE-IDEA Labs are being set up across India to encourage students for application of science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fundamentals towards enhanced hands-on experience.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will set up a training centre in Haryana soon for its Idea Development, Evaluation and Application (IDEA) Lab initiative, its member-secretary has said. AICTE-IDEA Labs are being established across the country to encourage students for application of science, technology engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fundamentals towards enhanced hands-on experience, learning by doing and even product visualisation.
“We will establish a training centre for IDEA Lab in Haryana shortly,” Dr Rajive Kumar, member-secretary, AICTE, said while unveiling a week-long faculty development programme (FDP) on the premises of DY Patil International University (DYPIU) in Pune. The AICTE wants to inculcate such type of education in the entire country, he was quoted as saying in a release.
Dr Neeraj Saxena, advisor, (Institutional Development Cell), AICTE, said IDEA Lab is all about experiential learning that would complement online learning, which would be the mainstream in the future. He said AICTE plans to prepare faculties to prepare questions based on IDEA lab to move away from rote learning and promote creativity and imagination among students.
AICTE-IDEA (Idea Development, Evaluation & Application) Lab scheme was launched by AICTE on January 1, 2021 to establish infrastructure supporting new age learning, in its institutions. As a common facility embedded in the institution, the IDEA Lab will make engineering graduates more imaginative and creative, besides getting basic training in the 21st century skills like- critical thinking, problem-solving, research, collaboration, communication, lifelong learning etc. IDEA Lab would also serve as an empowering infrastructure for faculty to delve into multidisciplinary education and research, emphasised in the National Education Policy 2020.
