In an exclusive interaction with Shiksha.com, the experts at the School of Technology at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) talk at length about their Btech program. The University has recently added two more specialisations to the BTech program in addition to the existing specialisations that cater to all core areas of Engineering. It includes Automobile Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering. The experts share the detailed admission process along with the eligibility criteria and the selection parameters basis which the students get through the admissions. They also elaborate on the total cost of the programme, scholarship options available to students, and the recent year placements trends.

Q: What is the eligibility criteria for admission to the BTech program at PDPU?

A: To be eligible for admission to BTech program at PDPU, an applicant must have a minimum aggregate of 45 per cent (40 per cent in case of SC/ ST) in Class 12 or equivalent with Physics and Chemistry as one of the core subjects (with Chemistry or Biology or Computer or Vocational Subject) from the same board.

Also, the applicant must have a valid score of JEE Main.

Q: How does the admission procedure works? What are the parameters that help to make the final selection?

A: As a part of the admission process, all eligible applicants must fill up the online application form on the University’s official website by making an online payment of Rs 350.  

Post detailed profile screening, the applicants are finally selected on the basis of their All India Rank in JEE Main exam. A merit list is prepared for all those eligible candidates who applied for the admissions in the manner prescribed by the University and within the prescribed time limit basis of which the final selections are made.

Q: What are the various specialisation options available to students and what is the total student intake per specialisation?

A: PDPU has been offering specialisation options to students that cater to all core areas of Engineering but the recent introduction of two more specialisations – Automobile Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering, the University has expressed its dedication to making students stay at par with the latest industry standards. Q: What is the total cost of the four-year BTech program at PDPU?

A: The cost of the four-year BTech program at PDPU is Rs 1.2 lakh per semester. There is an additional one-time Library Deposit and Security fee of Rs 3,000 and 10,000 respectively which is to be paid at the time of the admission and is also refundable at the end of the curriculum.

For students willing to opt for an accommodation facility on campus, there is an additional cost of Rs 85,000 per academic year which is exclusive of Electricity charges and Mess charges.

Electricity charges are to levied on an actual basis whereas there is a fixed cost of Rs 44,000 for mess facility and is compulsory for all students opting for the Hostel facility on campus.

Note: Hostel and mess fee are subject to change time to time

Q: Is there any scholarship or financial aid option available to students?

A: We do offer numerous scholarship options to students. It includes:

  1. Merit Scholarships that offers full tuition fee waiver to those who score a minimum of 8 SPI in the first semester and 8.5 in subsequent semesters
  2. Merit Cum Means Scholarships that also offers full tuition fee waiver to those who score a minimum of 8 SPI in the first semester and 8.5 in subsequent semesters and also their family income should be less than Rs 6 lakh in the previous financial year.
  3. Merit Scholarships offer a half-tuition fee waiver. This is specific to SC/ ST category students.
  4. Merit Scholarships offer a half-tuition fee waiver to female students only. To be eligible for this scholarship, students must score a minimum of 8 SPI in the first semester and 8.5 in subsequent semesters.

Q: Can you share some of the recent placement statistics?

A: School of Technology at PDPU has a track record of bringing all quality placements opportunities to its students. We have a strong corporate network of all leading and renowned recruiters across the country. It includes Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Industries, Torrent Power, Tata Power, Adani Power, Worley, Honeywell, Jubilant Lifesciences, Berger Paints, L&T Technology Services, Sabarmati Gas and TCS. Despite the global pandemic situation, the placements did not stop at PDPU. We witnessed the highest salary package of worth Rs 10 lakh offered to Btech Electrical and Civil students followed by the next highest package of worth Rs 9 lakh offered to Btech Computer students.
