The examinations of distance learning courses for students in Aligarh, Kerala, Murshidabad in West Bengal, Kishangarh in Bihar and Delhi have been postponed in the light of the spread of COVID-19.
The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has decided to postpone all the examinations of distance learning courses for students in Aligarh, Kerala, Murshidabad in West Bengal, Kishangarh in Bihar and Delhi, amid the Coronavirus fears. The examinations were scheduled to commence from March 15.
Talking about the same, Nafees Ansari, Director, Distance learning centre, AMU, said that over 6,000 students who are enrolled in four degree courses including BCom, MCom, Bachelor of Library Science and BSc Computer Application, will now appear for the exams from April 1. The decision has been taken in light of the spread of COVID-19. The University Grants Commission (UGC) has also issued a circular directing the varsities to avoid mass gatherings.
He also said that other examinations related to PG Diploma courses will be held as per schedule from April 1, as the number of students in these courses are less.
Moreover, Aligarh Muslim University has also postponed all annual hall functions and cultural programmes. According to the administrative officials, no permission will be granted for organizing functions at the Kennedy Auditorium.
In a communication to vice-chancellors, UGC Secretary Rajnish Jain has asked everyone to avoid large gatherings on campus. “Any staff or student with travel history to any COVID-19 affected country or in contact with such persons in the last 28 days should be monitored and home quarantined for 14 days,” he said.
