The 2020-21 academic year calendar was submitted to the state chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy by the AP State Council of Higher Education  (APSCHE).

Andhra Pradesh College Reopening: The colleges in Andhra Pradesh are all set to reopen from November 2, 2020, onwards. The 2020-21 academic year calendar was submitted to the state chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy by the AP State Council of Higher Education  (APSCHE). Before announcing the decision formally, the academic calendar will be reviewed by the CM. Talking about the college reopening, APSCHE Chairman K Hemachandra Reddy stated that for the first time the admissions to all the non-professional degree programmes will be conducted online through a centralised window this year based on the Intermediate marks secured by the students. Meanwhile, in June the APSCHE asked all the degree colleges offering non-professional undergraduate courses to get detailed information about the institutions in a specific format on the official website apsche.org in order to verify the facts and allow admissions by institutions.

Earlier, the ongoing pandemic situation already led to the postponement of the release of the academic calendar thrice. The new academic calendar consists of new specifications on account of the lockdown and as part of the educational reforms in line with the new National Education Policy. The new academic calendar also contains special provision for the loss of teaching days due to the pandemic along with the introduction of the four-year bachelor degree programme for non-professional programmes with a one-year internship/ on the job training in the academic year.

The APSCHE also revised the Choice Based Credit system for the non-professional degree programmes introduced in 2015 as it has completed five years of substance. The revised CBCS includes life skill courses and skill development courses along with skill enhancement courses. A mandatory 10-month internship along with community service is also a new component in the academic calendar.
