Andhra Pradesh government has launched a fee reimbursement scheme, which is expected to benefit over 12 lakh students in the state.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has today launched a fee reimbursement scheme for students in the state. The 'Jagananna Vidya Deevena' scheme will provide 100 per cent fee reimbursement and is expected to benefit over 12 lakh students across the state.
"No previous government had provided reimbursed fee arrears at such a scale," he said.
Apart from releasing Rs. 4,000 crore fund for fee reimbursement, the state government has also cleared Rs. 1,880 crore pending dues of the previous government.
The scheme has been designed to make education accessible to the poorest of the poor and the needy students. The real wealth that can be given to a child is education and the government is working towards it, the Chief Minister said. Despite the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the Andhra Pradesh government will reimburse the entire fee of all students pursuing higher education.
Those students who are studying in a day scholar their fund or the full fee will be credited to the accounts of the institutions where he/ she is studying. For those students who stay in hostels, the fund or full fee will be credited into the account of the mother of the beneficiary in two installments periodically in December and July of the session.
The Andhra Pradesh government has also launched a 'Jagananna Amma Vodi' scheme. Through this scheme, the poor and needy mothers will be given Rs 15,000 per year to educate their children studying in class 1 to 12.
Under another scheme, 'Jagananna Vasati Deevena', Rs. 20,000 per year in two installments (Jan-Feb, and July-August) will be given to 12 lakh mothers of students pursuing higher education towards mess and boarding charges.
