As the daily novel coronavirus cases continue to be over 500, the department feels that the COVID situation is not very encouraging in the state.

Assam School Reopening: The Assam education department has decided not to reopen schools on September 1. According to TOI, sources in the state education department on August 30 confirmed that after analyzing the condition of the COVID-19 pandemic in the state, there are certain health concerns that have compelled the department to wait before taking a decision on resuming offline classes. A senior official from the department said, “The government is in no mood to take risks with the health of school students as they are not yet vaccinated. The health department has not raised any concerns, but the state education department is not confident of starting offline classes,” said a senior official of the education department.

As the daily novel coronavirus cases continue to be over 500, the department feels that the COVID situation is not very encouraging in the state. “The health department has issued no objections to school reopening, but we will abide by their new SOP to be published soon," the official added.

Meanwhile, the education department has also decided that no separate SoPs will be issued by the department. The reopening of the schools will follow SoPs issued by the health department only, confirmed Ranoj Pegu, state education minister.

While the department allowed the schools and colleges to resume offline classes for Classes 10, 12 and final-year degree courses from September. The education department is concerned that the decision may invite flak in case there is a further spread of the infection from the campuses. They added that the education department was planning to allow students and teachers even with a single dose of vaccine. But Class 10 and 12 students are not eligible for vaccination.
