Assam School, College Reopening: The Assam government is all set to reopen schools and colleges for higher secondary to post-graduation level students from September 6. The education minister of Assam, Ranoj Pegu on September 3, 2021, announced that the Assam health department has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The government has allowed reopening the educational institutions of the final-year classes, Class 12, TDC final year and post-graduation final year from September 6. In order to attend school, students and teaching/non-teaching staff must get at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
Talking about the reopening of schools and colleges, Ranoj Pegu said “The state health department is monitoring and management of the Covid-19 situation in the state. A final decision or reopening the schools and colleges will be taken by the health department.” He further added, "The health department has issued an SOP today and they have communicated to us that the classes of the final year -- in Class 12, TDC final year and PG final year -- will be allowed to reopen from September 6. Also, this is to be ensured that all the students, teachers and other staff, non-teaching staff all are vaccinated with at least one dose of the vaccine.”
Meanwhile, hostels will reopen only for those who have taken both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the latest directives laid down by the state government, the physical classes for the postgraduate, graduate, higher secondary final year, GNM/Nursing courses and that of technical institutions shall be allowed for students having at least a single dose of vaccine.
The schools and colleges have been asked to conduct a 3-day vaccination drive for students, faculty and staff before the start of physical classes. Institutions are allowed to open only for the post-graduate, graduate and higher secondary final year students with fully vaccinated residents.
