CBSE 10th, 12th 2020: Here’s how much marks you need to clear the exams
Students will be required to obtain a minimum of 33 per cent marks in theory, practical and overall in order to pass the exams.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released a new circular that mentions the Class 10th, 12th boards pass marks criteria. For subjects involving practical elements, students will have to secure at least 33 per cent marks in practical, project work, or internal assessment, 33 per cent in theory in addition to 33 per cent aggregate score.
The pass criteria are different for Class 10th students. They will need to obtain an overall 33 per cent marks in each subject, both theory and practical/internal assessment taken together, in order to clear the examination.
Practical, project, internal assessment will be done by the schools, the new circular reads. According to the circular, "For subjects having practical or project component, they shall be examined by an external examiner who will be appointed by the board. However, for subject NCC, the practical examination in Class 12th will be conducted by the examiner appointed by the Directorate of NCC. In the case of Class 10th, as there is internal assessment, no external examiner will be appointed by CBSE/Directorate of NCC."
The board has released the dates to conduct the practical examinations for Class 10th and 12th. These are slated to begin from January 1 next year and will go on till February 15. Thereafter, the schools will be required to upload the marks scored by students on the official website of the CBSE.
The board will announce the CBSE date sheet for its annual examinations in December 2019. The exams are likely to begin in February for vocational subjects and in the first week of March next year for the main subjects.
The CBSE offers more than 240 subjects to its examinees of Class 10th and Class 12th. In Class 12th, the only compulsory subject is language, while in Class 10th the compulsory subjects are languages, Science, Mathematics, and Social Sciences.
