CBSE 12th Science Exam Pattern 2020
CBSE exam pattern 2020 for Science stream has been released by the Central Board. Students must go through the article to know more about the recently-introduced changes in the CBSE 12th exam pattern 2020.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released the CBSE exam pattern 2020 for Science stream. The Central Board has recently introduced some major changes in the CBSE exam pattern 2020 for classes 10th and 12th. This year, as per the released schedule, the CBSE 12th exams will take place from February 15 and continue until March 30, 2020. As per CBSE guidelines, all the schools have been instructed to conduct the internal assessments and practical examinations from January 1 to February 7, 2020.
New pattern- Internal Assessment
Earlier, CBSE did not have internal assessment in Class 12th Science. But, with the new curriculum coming in, all the subjects in the Science group will carry 20% weightage to be calculated in internal assessment. The Science group includes- Mathematics as the major subject, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Other compulsory subjects include English and the Second language as per choice. With 20% weightage been given to internal exams, CBSE board will carry 80% weightage in the finals.
Internal Choice-Question Pattern
The internal choice questions of the Board will not change and will remain the same. The percentage of cut off marks will be 33% as before and students can score better by choosing 33 questions of their choice.
CBSE board has announced the dates of the practical exams along with the dates of practical exams and projects or internal assessments for Class 12. The CBSE practical examinations 2020 will be conducted between January 1, 2020 and February 7, 2020. The practical examination will be conducted in the presence of an external invigilator. There will also be an observer appointed by the board who will supervise the practical exams and the assessments.
Changes introduced by CBSE for Class 12th Science
Following are the changes introduced by CBSE for Class 12th Science students in the CBSE 12th exam pattern 2020:
- CBSE will reduce descriptive questions during board exams in the year 2020.
- CBSE board has revised the pattern of exam, the syllabus and the schedule for all schools affiliated to CBSE and for the students appearing in board exams in Class 12th.
- The State Government has been given the power to evaluate all the facilities that are provided by CBSE affiliated schools.
- For vocational subjects in the Science stream, the exams will be conducted in February.
- The faculty will be provided more time to evaluate the exam papers and all results will be declared earlier this year.
- All analytical, short and numerical questions will be increased that will discourage any rote learning process.
- There will be no overlapping concepts in Physics and other science subjects.
- p-Block, Group 15 and also Solid-State chapter has been removed totally from Chemistry syllabus.
- The exam application fees has been hiked by CBSE as in Rs 750 to Rs 1500 for all candidates belonging to General category. For Delhi students, there will be no application fees.
- The descriptive questions have been reduced in CBSE board exam where 33% will be internal choice questions. There will be more of 2 marks question rather than that of 5- or 8-marks questions. Increase in 1 mark for objective types will be applicable as per new change.
There are approximately 20,000 private as well as private schools that include Kendriya Vidyalayas and other 220 schools in all 30 foreign nations that are CBSE affiliated. NCERT Curriculum has to be followed by all these CBSE affiliated schools.

Students will have no negative marking for any question that they attempt and have done wrong or have left it un-attempted in Science. The new CBSE curriculum introduces Value-based questions which carry 4 marks each.
