The CBSE exam pattern for class 12th Humanities has been released by the Central Board of Secondary Education. Students must go through the CBSE Exam Pattern 2020 for Humanities to have an insight into the marking scheme and the type of questions that are generally asked in the examination.
For 2020, the CBSE class 12th exams will be starting from February 15 and will end on March 30, 2020.
CBSE Class 12 New exam pattern
The board has introduced some changes in the exam pattern, earlier this year. The CBSE new exam pattern now has more weightage to school-based assessment and to objective type questions.
Internal Assessment for all subjects
Internal assessment is an essential part of CBSE’s examination system. Before the changes introduced this year, the internal assessment was not available in subjects like English and Political Science.
From 2020 examinations onward, all subjects will have an internal assessment. All the subjects will have 20% i.e. 20 marks out of total 100 that will be counted for internal assessment. The written paper will be of 80 marks for all subjects. There are however some subjects of fine arts that will have 70 marks towards written and 30 towards internal assessment.
Internal choices in the question paper
Another change in the exam pattern is the introduction of internal choice type questions in the papers. At least 33% of total questions will be given as an internal choice. All sections of the paper will now have internal choices. Students will now have more choices of questions to choose from. One can choose the questions they have more knowledge over and in turn score better.
Objective type questions
CBSE has further decided to increase the number of objective type questions. This also includes multiple-choice questions too. At least 20 marks out of total 80 will be objective type questions. 60% of the paper will be questions that require students to write detailed answers and the rest 40% will be objective type questions.
CBSE Exam Pattern 2020 for Humanities stream
The general question paper pattern for the Humanities stream is as follows:
- All papers have a total of 3 or 4 sections. The total marks of the papers will be 100 marks.
- All papers need to be completed in 3 hours.
- The papers will have multiple choice questions which will be in the first section of the paper. They will be of 1 mark each. The short answer questions will be of 2 marks each.
- The last couple of sections of the paper will have questions have will have 5 or 6 marks each.
CBSE Class 12 Exam Pattern 2020
CBSE Exam Pattern Class 12 English
The core English paper of CBSE 12th humanities has three sections in total. Section one has two passages and has objective type questions, 5 multiple choice question. Second section judges writing skills through letter-writing, advertisement writing etc. The third section has questions from the English textbook. The entire paper is of 100 marks.

The economics paper has three sections in total. The first section is of 40 marks and is Macroeconomics. The second section is also 40 marks and is Indian Economic Development. The last section is 20 marks and is project work.

CBSE Exam Pattern Class 12 Geography
The CBSE 12th Geography paper is of 70 marks and its project work is of 30 marks. The written paper includes map work in one section. The written paper has two sections. Part one is the fundamentals of physical geography and the second section is the physical environment. Both sections are of 35 marks each.
