Making the schools 'Anger-free zones' will help students in developing effective skills and in eradicating emotions like fear, humiliation, hurt and disrespect which are the by-products of anger. This change will help students become more mentally and emotionally strong and wealthy, reads the circular.
The Central Board of Secondary Education has directed schools to manage ‘anger’ to endure a fun learning environment and happy school. Schools have been asked to convert the premises into ‘Anger-Free Zone’ or ‘No-Anger Zone’.
According to the circular, ‘In this Anger-Free Zone, everyone will try to manage their anger, whether it is school educators, parents, school personnel, or other stakeholders.’ The best way to teach children the value of ‘freedom of anger’ is by setting examples ourselves. Some basic changes that can be resorted to include- genuinely smiling at students and teachers, talking to people around them calmly, practicing breathing exercises, not looking at cellphones all the time, practicing mindfulness, keeping aside 20 minutes for self, etc.
The circular is issued by Anurag Tripathi, CBSE Secretary that reads, “Making our schools 'Anger-free zones' will help our students in developing effective skills and in eradicating emotions like fear, humiliation, hurt and disrespect which are the by-products of anger. This change will help students become more mentally and emotionally strong and wealthy. They’ll return home charged and happy and will happily want to come back to school the next day. What the children learn at school, they will reflect the same at home.”
Schools have been asked to take up exercises with the children to help them overcome their anger issues and to empower them with tools so that they help others overcome the anger issues too.
CBSE schools will reserve one period per day for Health and Physical Education and also integrate various forms of Art while transacting the curriculum for all classes. Through these sports activities, yoga, and art-integrated classes, one can create a joyful learning environment in school, which will subsequently reduce instances of anger.
