“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the department has decided to suspend NITI Internship Programme for three months from May-July, 2020,” the department said.
After reviewing the situation, the department will release the new dates of opening of NITI internship programme, the statement added.
The NITI internship scheme is an unpaid programme, which is available throughout the year based on the requirement of the department.
The internship programme was launched in 2015 and interested candidates can apply for the same from 1st to 10th of every month. The period of internship is from six weeks to six months. After the completion, the interns are given certificates by the advisors of the respective division.
With this programme, the department aims to engaged students who are pursuing graduate or post-graduate courses from recognized university and institutions within the country or abroad.
During the internship period, the interns are introduced to various verticals, divisions, units with the department of NITI Aayog and are expected to supplement the process of analysis within NITI Aayong through empirical collection and collation of in-house and other information.
The total number of coronavirus cases in India has crossed 49,000 marks, as per the data released by the Health Ministry. With the rise in the number of coronavirus cases, the Central government had earlier extended the lockdown period to May 17.
