After a prolonged lockdown due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, the Patna University (PU) resumed working on April 20. According to the reports, the university issued a notification stating no employee from the COVID-19 hotspot zone is required to visit the office for any reason.
Talking about the official notification, PU registrar Manoj Kumar Mishra, stated, “Officials living in COVID hotspot zones need not come to the university office. However, they are instructed not to go out of the station and stay in touch with university headquarters via telephonic communication. No entry pass would be issued to employees living in Sultanganj and Khajpura locality and the already issued passes for these localities will be treated as cancelled.”
In order to contain the spread of the contagious virus COVID-19, all the offices of Patna University and its constituent units were closed since March 24.
However, on April 17, the chancellor’s secretariat directed the vice-chancellors to ensure that all officers including pro-VCs, registrars, financial advisers, finance officers are present at their respective universities. They vice-chancellors were also instructed to take disciplinary action against the officers who are absent without taking prior permission.
Following the order, PU made the presence of all officers and section officers mandatory from April 20 onwards.
Mr Mishra revealed that the office is resumed only for essential work. The employees are instructed to follow all the precautionary laid down by the health ministry in order to control the spread. Social distancing norms are also being followed during working hours.
To prevent academic loss of students the university has switched to digital platforms and online classes in early April. The university that created its YouTube channel on April 7 has gained around 1.44 thousand subscribers so far with more than 7,000 views on its lecture videos.
