Parents have started an online petition to the HRD Ministry demanding a directive to schools for not implementing fee hike this academic session at least until schools reopen.

After many schools in the country have announced fee hike, parents have now started an online petition to the Ministry of Human Resource Development asking to direct schools to not implement the fee hike in this academic session.

While parents were waiting for schools to waive off the fees due to coronavirus outbreak in the country, several schools have announced a fee hike adding to their woes.

On Monday, the Gujarat Government had directed all the private schools in the state not to hike fees for a year. The West Bengal government had also appealed schools to refrain from hiking fees. However, no clear instructions have been issued on fee hike in Delhi-NCR.

The schools around the country were closed by mid-March, due to the spread of coronavirus. The 21-day lockdown, which was scheduled to end on April 14, has now been extended until May 3. Many schools have already started teaching and learning activities online.

Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments have announced earlier that no schools should force parents to pay fees during the lockdown. However, it is still unclear to parents whether no fees will be charged during the period or they will have to be paid later.

The Delhi government till now has not issued any directive on possible fee waiver, the private schools are asked to first get clearances on fee hike from the government’s fee review management committee.

The death toll due to coronavirus infection in the country rose to 377 while the number of cases soared to 11,439 on Wednesday, said the Union Health Ministry.
