Tripura government is considering the introduction of neighbourhood classes, where one teacher would teach a maximum of five students in their vicinity by maintaining social distancing until schools resume.
Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath has said that it is planning to introduce neighbourhood classes in the state, where one teacher will teach a maximum of five students living in their vicinity while maintaining the social distancing norms.
The state government is planning to do this to intensify classes apart from online and television-aided lessons, during the coronavirus lockdown period, he added.
He said that during a web conferencing with Human Resource Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal yesterday, he informed him and other education ministers from different states, that Tripura is ready to resume classes anytime the Ministry instructs.
“At the present situation, it is difficult to know when the classes will resume. However, the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) is ready to resume it anytime. The Board has also appealed to teachers to join its initiative of neighbourhood classes and has received a positive response so far," Nath said.
Tripura has approximately 29,000 students enrolled in government and semi-government schools across districts. According to Nath, they are in the process of assessing how many teachers would be needed for the job. Among other states, Assam is thinking along similar lines, he said.
The state education department is already broadcasting pre-recorded classroom videos for the students in the state through 13 television channels of the state. The government has also applied to the Prasar Bharati director for two-hour slots daily for broadcasting similar programmes, while these classes are regularly uploaded on the Siksha Bandhu YouTube account.
Talking about the TBSE Class 12 and TBSE Class 10 answer sheet evaluation, he said, that it is in progress, maintaining the social distancing.
