Meghalaya Government shut down schools, colleges till March 31 in wake of rise in Novel Coronavirus cases in the country.
With the steep increase in the number of Novel Coronavirus cases around the country, the Meghalaya government has directed all the schools and colleges to shutdown till March 31. The state government has also advised schools or college authorities to cancel or postpone any major sports event till the above defined date.
The announcement was made by the Health Minister of the state, A L Hek, in a suo-moto statement during the Budget Session in the Assembly.
The order will be made effective from Tuesday; i.e March 17, 2020.
Talking about the shut down, he said that the educational institutions around the state will be kept closed till further notice, however, the examinations will be held as per the schedule.
The companies and officies have also been requested to allow work from home option to its employees
The decision has been taken considering the rise in the confirmed Coronavirus cases in the country and the only way out to contain this infection from spreading is by enforcing the social distancing. For this, we have also askedthe organisers to postpone or cancel any upcoming events, the Health Minister of the state added.
The Minister has also requested people to not visit places where the chances of catching infection is high due to large gathering of public such as cinemas, gymnasiums, swimming pools and others.
He has also advised people to avoid any travel during this period unless it is unavoidable.
On Sunday the number of Novel Coronavirus cases rose to about 110, as per the announcement made by Union Health Ministry.
