Amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic, some major firms such as Accenture, Wipro and Tech Mahindra have decided to honour offers made to new recruitments.

Amid the ongoing nationwide lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic, some major firms such as Accenture, Wipro and Tech Mahindra have decided to honour offers made to new recruitments. However, biggies such as TCS, Infosys and Mindtree are not honouring the job offers they have already made. Accenture, Wipro and Tech Mahindra have already started on-boarding of recruits virtually. These recruits consist of both experienced as well as fresh graduates. It is to be noted that the IT sector is one of the largest employers in India. It employs more than 45 lakh people employed in different IT companies across the country. Every month, this sector hires nearly 20,000 people.

As per Nasscom, the sector hired 205,000 new employees in the financial year 2019-20. According to Lakshmi C, managing director and lead of human resources of Accenture, in India, the company was honouring all offers made so far. Its associated benefits are effective from the date of joining. It is one of the largest employers in the IT sector. On average, it hired about 2,500 people every month in India in the last one year. In India, it has presently approximately 200,000 people in India. According to Tech Mahindra chief public officer Harshvendra Soin, COVID-19 pandemic continues to be a vital concern for business internationally.

Likewise, Wipro has established that it would honour all offer letters made to candidates. Though, IT biggies such as TCS, Infosys and Mindtree are non-committal about the offers they have already made. Some firms are honouring the offer commitments, while there are others who are either postponing the joining date or urging the person to stay put in the current jobs for the time being. In some cases, they are even compensating them with a month’s salary.
