The Haryana government on March 13, 2020, announced the closure of all universities and colleges of the state till March 31. The government took this decision a day after it declared COVID-19/Coronavirus an epidemic. According to an official, the government also decided to shut all the schools of five districts – Gurugram, Sonepat, Rohtak, Faridabad, and Jhajjar till March 31, 2020.
According to a school education department order, despite the orders regarding the closure, the students of these districts will have to appear for their examinations as scheduled. The advisory issued by the Panchkula based Director General of Higher education stated that the state government of Haryana has decided that all the universities and colleges located within the boundaries of Haryana will be closed till March 31 as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
Meanwhile, Haryana’s department of school education, in its order stated that all the private, as well as government schools situated in Rohtak, Jhajjar, Faridabad, Sonepat, and Gurugram districts, will remain shut till March 31, 2020, with immediate effect, except for holding examinations.
Stating further that schools in other districts shall function normally as scheduled, the official notice stated that students will attend their school only to appear for the Board examinations, annual examinations, and assessment examinations, as scheduled earlier. However, the department hasn’t closed the school for the staff. All teaching and non-teaching staff has been asked to attend the schools as per the normal schedule.
On March 12, 2020, the state government declared COVID-19/Coronavirus an epidemic and the health minister Anil Vij advised people to avoid attending and organizing large gatherings.
