While talking about the initiative, an official stated that the Education Department directed the schools to create WhatsApp groups for this purpose. It also asked the schools to include the guardians of the students in the same.

Due to the outbreak of coronavirus, schools, colleges, universities, and other educational institutions are shut. In order to make the students not miss out on studies, the Assam government has instructed the schools to share study material and homework with students through WhatsApp. According to the government, this step will prevent learning gaps and subsequent dropouts during the suspension of the classes in the wake of COVID-19.

While talking about the initiative, an official stated that the Education Department directed the schools to create WhatsApp groups for this purpose. It also asked the schools to include the guardians of the students in the same.

The official further stated that the department also asked the teacher to assist students with the syllabus, homework, and other study material over the phone or WhatsApp. It also suggested the assistance timings i.e. 7 am to 9 am in the morning and 7 pm to 9 pm in the evening.

For the future, the department demanded schools to use technologies like Google Classroom. Schools are also asked to create class-wise WhatsApp groups where a large number of students and teachers are added.

For the parents and guardians who do not own smartphones, the department asked the school authorities to identify local youths with smartphones to assist them.

The Assam state government suspended classes in all the educational institutions till March 31 after the outbreak of the rapidly spreading pandemic, novel coronavirus. The total positive cases of coronavirus in India have reached to 415. The deadly disease has claimed seven lives so far. Strict lockdowns are imposed on the state to control the virus spread.
