The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras is planning to make final-year students and research scholars return in the second half of May. According to the report, the institute's director Bhaskar Ramamurthi stated, “It will depend on when transport across the country is opened up and also how much of the country is covered by containment zones. We will open up for the continuing students in two batches. We may ease into the next academic year without a break after that."
The Director further stated that the successful return of the final-year students will give them confidence and learning to ask students and scholars from other years to return in batches. The institute tentatively made a plan involving three batches between May and July.
Meanwhile, IIT Madras began conducting classes online on April 1 and the classes for this semester will be over by May 3 or shortly thereafter. While talking about the institute’s planning in case they fail to have the students return even by the end of July, the Director said, “we have to make plans for online courses for the next semester as well. We have not made any such plans as of now,”
However, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati is working on a little different plan. According to the reports, the institute would start the new academic year in August. A spokesperson for the institute revealed that IIT Guwahati is on the track in completing the syllabus through online classes. The students did not suffer any loss of hours for theory lectures. The laboratory session will be completed once the session resumes.
