The University of Mumbai further postponed the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) examinations until May 3.
The University of Mumbai further postponed the undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) examinations until May 3. The university took the decision after the government of India extended the 21-day lockdown until the month of May considering the emergency health crisis due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
On April 16, Mumbai University announced the postponement of its semester examination by releasing an official circular that states, ‘The university plans to conduct exams once the lockdown is lifted, and the final call on this will be taken based on directions from the state and central government. For the time being, the interim summer break is being extended until May 3, 2020.’
Earlier, the varsity earlier postponed the examinations till April 14, 2020. A total of 759 exams for various courses are to be conducted. University’s Vice-Chancellor Dr Suhas Pednekar asked all students to utilize the lockdown period, prepare for the examinations and pursue hobbies.
The Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL), University of Mumbai also deferred the first year and second-year BCom exams scheduled to be conducted on March 31 and April 15, respectively.
Meanwhile, The University also urged teachers to continue to work from home by conducting virtual lectures for students.
According to the reports, the higher and technical education minister Uday Samant interacted with heads of all state universities as well as the directors of Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and the state principal secretary earlier this month. During the meeting, the minister asked them to prepare a constructive plan to conduct exams for the current academic year as well as structure the 2020-21 academic year.
