Odisha government directed educational institutions to start academic activities online. The spread of deadly novel coronavirus in India ruptured the education system. Amid closed campus, postponed exams and delayed results, thousands of students are forced to study from home. However, the government as well the academic institution are leaving no stones unturned to prevent academic loss of students.
According to the data shared by the State Health and Family Welfare Department on April 20, the frontline authorities marked 15 areas as COVID-19 containment zones across Odisha. The areas that are classified as containment zones are spread across Khorda, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Kalahandi, Sundargarh and Balasore districts.
In the midst of the prevailing situation, the Odisha government decided not to put the safety of students and teachers at stake. In order to prevent academic loss keeping the students and staff safe, the state government's Higher Education Department permitted the resumption of normal activities of the state's public and private universities during the lockdown, with certain restrictions.
The restrictions include conducting virtual classes, e-Learning, use of distance learning mode to connect with students and exploring different mediums to maintain student-teacher interaction. The department also made this clear that no exam will be conducted during the lockdown period.
The students, however, will not be allowed to stay in the hostel or enter the University office or department without valid permission.
According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Odisha has 74 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 24 cured and discharged patients. So far one death is reported due to the disease in the state.
