COVID-19 impact: These three Punjab universities may hold final-year exams in July

During the meeting, the 10-page UGC guideline 2020 and Punjab state COVID exit strategy were discussed.

The Punjab higher education department advised all the universities to conduct examinations of all final year (exit) classes in the month of July if the lockdown is lifted.

The vice-chancellors and controllers of exams of Panjab University, Chandigarh; Punjabi University, Patiala; and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, along with state government officials discussed policies regarding examinations and admissions for the next session in universities and colleges of the state through a video-conference on April 29.

During the meeting, the 10-page UGC guideline 2020 and Punjab state COVID exit strategy were discussed.

Talking about the exit strategy of the state, the secretary of higher education and languages, Punjab. Rahul Bhandari stated, “In the meeting, it was discussed that examination of final-year students could be conducted between July 1 to 15 if the lockdown is lifted.”

Mr Bhandari further added, “After the lockdown is lifted, all universities will hold 15 to 20-day classes and thereafter conduct their examinations. The plan is to hold a two-hour exam with more choices for students.”

Earlier, the department of higher education and languages of Punjab government wrote to the three universities seeking their suggestions about exams. This was the second such meeting since the department sent the letter to the universities.

PU’s controller of examinations, Parvinder Singh was also part of the meeting. Talking about the discussion held in the meeting Mr Parvinder stated that the vice-chancellors of all the three universities agreed with decisions taken in the meeting. According to the decision, the next session should begin in September. Once the exam dates are out, requisite arrangements will be made.
