The Assam Higher Education Council will promote all the students in class 11 to the next class, without conducting any final examination.
The Assam Higher Education Council (AHSEC) has announced that all the class 11 students who are studying in institutions affiliated to it, will be promoted to the next class without a final examination.
With this, about 2.31 lakh students in the state will be able to appear for AHSEC Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) examination for class 12 next year, without appearing for class 11 examination.
The final examination for class 11 was scheduled to be held from March 25, however, due to the nationwide lockdown it was postponed indefinitely. A total of 2,31,238 students had registered this year to appear for the Class 11 examination in science, arts, commerce, and vocational study streams.
"The decision in this regard was made by the chairman of the AHSE, after holding a meeting with the examination department. This has been done keeping in view the current situation in the country and prolonged lockdown due to coronavirus outbreak," said Pankaj Borthakur, Controller of Examinations, AHSEC.
Earlier, Union Human Resources minister Ramesh Pokhriyal had directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), to promote all students from class 1 to 8, to the next class amid the coronavirus outbreak. He had also asked CBSE to promote class 9 and 11 students on the basis of internal assessment done in the respective schools.
The total number of coronavirus positive cases in India today escalated to reach an alarming figure of 5734. Globally, the number of cases of novel coronavirus has crossed the 1.5 million mark as the global death toll reached 88,000.
