With the extended lockdown until May 3, the Karnataka education department decided to conduct the Undergraduate (UG) and Post Graduate (PG) final exams in the first or second week of June. According to the reports, the Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Natayan stated that the tentative dates for UG and PG final exams are decided considering the ongoing health emergency in the country.

The decision regarding the tentative dates of the exams came after a meeting held between the minister and the vice-chancellors across the state. After the meeting, the minister stated that a system cannot function without a tentative date and vice-chancellors are given time to decide the same. Apart from exam dates, the government is also mulling over not conducting any practical examination and assessing students based on their cumulative performance. Talking about the strategy, the minister revealed, ‘academic institutions are conducting online classes. Now, it’s the Universities who will decide whether they need to conduct more classes on the reopening of the institutions or they can go on with the exams directly.

The minister also assured that the department gave special instructions for the migrant students who could not return to their homes and are staying in the hostels. The department is also thinking to give the syllabus a revamp.

Various committees held by Vice-chancellors are formed to make the necessary changes in the syllabus of UG, PG programmes and revamp it a bit. Multiple committees are formed to revamp the syllabus of science, arts, commerce, and engineering programmes. The syllabus will be changed by the department once the committees will submit their reports.
