Kerala University is speculating over conducting semester exams in the second week of May. According to the reports, an official notice available on the University website states that the University can resume semester examinations by the second week of May.

The decision on examinations came after a meeting of the examination monitoring committee chaired by University Vice-Chancellor V P Mahadevan Pillai. However, the University will not release the examination calendar before May 3 (the date until the nationwide lockdown is extended). The University also decided to wait until the public transport system is back to normal and the state government grants permission to go ahead with conducting the exam.

The examination monitoring committee of the Kerala University also came up with a time-bound plan to begin answer sheet evaluation immediately after the lockdown is lifted. The statement informs that the evaluation process will take place following all the precautionary laid down by the health ministry in order to control the COVID-19 spread.

Earlier, the Kerala Higher Education Department directed all Universities in the state to conduct all pending examinations from May 11 onwards. However, the department took back its decision under severe criticism. Later, the department stated that the Universities are free to make a decision on the exam schedule.

Kerala suspended all the University exams after the severe spread of the novel coronavirus in the state. Meanwhile, a panel appointed by UGC to suggest plans related to the commencement of the new academic session in the higher educational institutes stated that they can begin with the session from September instead of July. Another panel suggested online exams for the universities and said that in case the institution lacks infrastructure for the same then they must wait for the lockdown to end.
