The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has announced that it will scale up support for 145 low and middle-income countries, to help students cope up with the study loss due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Owing to school closure around the world, due to the coronavirus outbreak disrupts the education of more than 80 percent of students. UNICEF today announced that it will scale up support in 145 low and middle-income countries, to help children continue with their studies while keeping schools safe.

Responding to the situation, Rober Jenkins, UNICEF's global chief of education said that during the Ebola outbreak children stayed away from the schools for a longer period. Later, when the situation got under control the percentage of students returning to school dropped significantly. It is, therefore, very necessary, to give children alternative ways to learn and to stay in a routine. This will help in bringing them back to the school after we eradicate COVID-19.

With coronavirus affecting the entire world, he said, UNICEF is prepared to tackle the Ebola kind of situation.

In order to curb the disruption to children's education and to keep their learning safe, UNICEF has given additional funding to accelerate work with governments and partners145 low and middle-income countries.

The initial global allocation of USD 13 million - nearly USD  9 million of which is from a contribution made by the Global Partnership for Education - will be catalytic by supporting national governments and a wide range of education partners in each country to develop plans to enable a rapid, system-wide response, the statement added.

We have to act collectively in this situation to protect children's education, societies, and economies. If we don't act now we will feel the burden soon after we've beaten COVID-19, Jenkins added.
