Delhi government presented the Delhi budget for the fiscal year 2020-21 today in a single session. Of the total Rs 65,000 crore planned budget, 24.33% was allocated for the education sector. Read more below

The Delhi Government presented the budget for the financial year 2020-21 today. The session for presenting the budget was curtailed from five days to one day due to the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus. The Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia released a total of Rs 65,000 crore for the financial year of which Rs 15,815 crore or 24.33 per cent is allocated for the education sector.

Here are the latest updates on what lies for the education sector in the year 2020-21:

  • Delhi govt proposes 145 new schools of excellence
  • Rs 100 crore set aside to build digital classes in every school
  • Construction of 17 new school buildings. The city will have its own education board
  • Happiness Class and Entrepreneurship, and Desh Bhakti course will be promoted
  • Newspapers will be made available for senior classes
  • Children will be trained to speak English. A total of Rs 12 crore will be spent on this
  • 20 thousand new classrooms will also be built

Over the years, it is seen that the government has increased its allocation towards the improvement of the education sector. This year, education has received a higher allocation by Rs 214 crore than the last fiscal year. The year-on-year allocation of the budget towards education can be seen below:
