What is Happiness Curriculum?
Happiness Curriculum was launched in 2018 as a scheme to reinvent the school education sector in Delhi Government Schools. With school education in India primarily focused on the competitive testing model, which lays prime emphasis on scoring marks in order to succeed; the current government felt the need to provide a more fulfilling education and learning experience. In line with this, Happiness Curriculum was launched which aims at promoting the development of cognition, language, literacy, numeracy and the arts. This, in turn, aids the mental growth well-being and happiness of students.
So far the ‘Happiness Curriculum’ has won commendations from different corners of the globe. On February 25, 2020, US First Lady Melania Trump attended a ‘Happiness Class’ at a government school in South Delhi. During her visit, Melania not only interacted with the teachers and students but also witnessed various activities conducted as a part of the 'happiness curriculum'.
Here’s how the First Lady reacted after getting the firsthand experience of the happiness curriculum:
During the interaction, the Deputy CM also directed the schools to let the students attend the online classes even if their parents are unable to pay their fees. "The idea behind all this effort is to help every home become a school, and every parent taking on the role of a teacher," Sisodia said.
