DBSE will start with 30 affiliated schools and by August 15, twenty ‘Schools of Specialised Excellence’ (SoSE) will be launched under the board.

The Delhi Government today, i.e. on August 11 signed a memorandum of association with the International Baccalaureate (IB) board. Talking about the collaboration, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that IB will be associated with the upcoming Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE). The Capital CM announced the collaboration on Twitter and said, “Delhi Government signs an MoU with International Baccalaureate (IB) Board. IB will be associated with the upcoming Delhi Board of School Education. Now Delhi’s Education Revolution will reach newer heights with DBSE and IB collaboration.”

According to the information provided by the state government, DBSE will start with 30 affiliated schools and by August 15, twenty ‘Schools of Specialised Excellence’ (SoSE) will be launched under the board. The live session conducted on Twitter stated that students under Schools of Specialised Excellence will be taught IB curriculum. The session further added, “IB learners learn to think critically and solve complex problems. They have the ability to drive their own learning, they are more culturally aware, multilingual thinkers and they are able to engage in the increasingly globalized world.”

According to the government, students of Classes 9 to 12 with the special aptitude and interest in specific domains of study including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), Humanities, Performing and Visual Arts, and High-end 21st Century Skills will be catered by SoSEs under the Delhi Board of School Education.

The MoU signing session informed that out of the 20 SoSEs in the first phase, eight schools will specialise in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) 5 schools each will specialise in Humanities and High-end 21st Century Skills, and two in Performing and Visual Arts.

Admissions at the STEM schools will be conducted for Class 9 and Class 11 students. In the first year, admissions to the specialised schools will be offered to Class 9 in Humanities, Performing and Visual Arts, and High-end 21st Century Skills. An aptitude test will be held for admission to theSoSEs. The authority would announce the admission schedule later.
