As one of the top universities in our nation, Delhi University enrolls many students from across India as well as from other countries. After receiving acceptance, the out-of-town students' first concern is finding a secure, welcoming place to stay. Delhi University provides both male and female students with separate hostel accommodations in order to meet their needs.

Eligibility for Admission into a Delhi University Hostel

Candidates meeting the following eligibility requirements will be taken into consideration for the access hostel facilities of Delhi University:

  1. The applicant must be enrolled as a regular Postgraduate student in a University Department, Center, or Faculty.
  2. The candidate's parents shouldn't live in the National Capital Territory (NCT).
  3. The candidate should not be working full-time, part-time, irregularly, or temporarily somewhere.
  4. All of the chosen out-of-town candidates may not be able to acquire hostel housing due to the large number of students applying. Therefore, the applicants must be aware that acceptance into a programme does not guarantee the allocation of dorm space. Accommodation will be provided to qualified candidates based on their merit and the availability of a hostel bed. A student who is admitted to a hostel is permitted to stay there until the final exam date for the specific degree they are pursuing.
  5. If admittance to a programme is determined by a written exam, merit list, or interview in the faculty, department, or center, the prepared merit is used for hostel admission.
  6. Other than the aforementioned, no other parameter or factor is given any weight.

Every hostel has an admissions committee, which is made up of the resident tutors, the provost, and the warden. Admission to the hostel is solely determined by the merit list provided by the relevant faculty or department and the admission committee's established policy. On the basis of the merit list, the candidates are initially shortlisted. The candidates on the shortlist are interviewed by the hostel admissions committee, and then the chosen individuals are admitted. Reservations are available in accordance with university regulations.

However, there are only 20 hostels in DU colleges, collectively. Even in colleges with hostels, there are just a few available beds. The majority of remote students are forced to find lodging in hotels or rented apartments. In the past, the majority of universities with dorms chose their students based on "merit" or their class XII grades, with some also conducting interviews.
