The program has been designed by the innovation cell of the education ministry and All India Council of Technical Education, or AICTE, for school teachers for the first time.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Tribal Affairs Minister Arjun Munda have today; i.e. July 16, 2021, together launched the ‘School Innovation Ambassador Training Program’ for 50,000 school teachers.
The programme which will start from July 20 will train teachers from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)- affiliated schools including all Kendriya Vidyalayas, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas and Eklavya Residential Model Schools across the country.
The program has been designed by the innovation cell of the education ministry and All India Council of Technical Education, or AICTE, for school teachers for the first time. AICTE also runs a similar programme for teachers in higher education. The training will be delivered in online mode only. The training programme will run for a duration of two months which includes training in five modules to encourage innovation and creativity among school students. These modules are innovation, entrepreneurship, intellectual property rights, design thinking, product development and idea generation, etc. To train these teachers almost 40 trainers have been roped in.
"CBSE is the first board in the world to introduce artificial intelligence, a skill development course as an elective for students from Class 8 from 2019. We have introduced a design thinking subject this year. CBSE has now converged with AICTE to promote a sustainable innovation environment in the schooling system,” said Anita Karwal, secretary, school education and literacy department.
During the launch of the programme, the education minister emphasised on the importance of experiential learning and innovation to find solutions for the 21st-century problems. “ There is no dearth of resources, the task is to find and nurture the critical thinking, innovation and creativity of our school students. In the coming days, we will try to extend this programme in state schools as well,” said Pradhan.
