As per the government resolution (GR), it will come into effect from academic session 2020-21. The session is going to start from April 20, 2020.

More than 45,000 government, self-financed secondary and primary and government schools affiliated to the state board will shift their academic sessions from June-May to April-March, a pattern followed by the schools of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) across India. As per the government resolution (GR), it will come into effect from academic session 2020-21. The session is going to start from April 20, 2020. Without making any alterations in Diwali vacations, the summer vacations are planned from May 4 till June 7.

The academic sessions are to begin from the first week of April of 2021-22 session. Summer vacations will begin from the first week of May till the end of the first week of June. In the month of March, the annual examinations would be finished. The GR observed that the April to March academic session will come into effect for all the government primary schools, all grant-in-aid and self-financed primary schools recognised by the state. Along with them, the new pattern will be applicable to all grant-in-aid and self-financed secondary and higher secondary schools affiliated to the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB).

As of now, during the period between April and May, schools are kept open for teachers till summer vacations end in the month of May. This means for almost a month, there is no academic work held in schools.

There was a discrepancy in the number of teaching days in the first and the second session. Apart from this, once the annual examinations are over in March-end, there is no teaching work conducted till June first week. By shifting the session, teachers will get an extra ten days of teaching.
