Himachal Pradesh School Reopening: Himachal Pradesh state government has issued fresh orders stating that schools in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed until September 25. The decision has been taken due to the COVID-19 situation in the state. Earlier, the state government extended the closure of schools until September 21. Releasing the fresh order issued on September 20, Chief Secretary and Chairperson of State Executive Committee Ram Subhag Singh said, "All schools shall continue to remain closed, except residential schools, further up to 25.09.2021." He further added that the teaching and non-teaching staff shall continue to attend schools. Meanwhile, the standard operating procedure developed by the Department of Education will be followed for residential schools in order to prevent any spread of COVID-19.

Amid the declining cases of the novel coronavirus, various states across the country released SoPs to reopen schools and other educational institutions. However, various states are still skeptical about India being hit by the third wave of COVID-19. In the midst of school reopening, Supreme Court has clearly stated that it is not a matter where judicial directions can be issued. Every state has to take the responsibility of reopening schools and continuing the teaching-learning process after analyzing the COVID-19 situation in the region.

The verdict from the apex court came while responding to a petition filed by a Delhi-based student seeking directions for the phased reopening of physical schools. According to Live Law, the apex court received a plea seeking directions to the Centre and States to consider and take a time-bound decision with regard to the physical re-opening of schools and conduct of offline teaching. The official tweet posted by Live Law states, “Supreme Court refuses to entertain a PIL filed by a Delhi-based student seeking directions for the phased reopening of physical schools. It is not a matter where judicial directions can be issued, observes the Court”.
