The Human Resource and Development Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched a helpline for counseling of students of the Central University of Odisha on Monday i.e. May 12.

The Human Resource and Development Minister Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank launched a helpline for counseling of students of the Central University of Odisha on Monday i.e. May 12. According to the reports, the helpline is launched for the students who are in mental distress in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.

The minister launched the student’s helpline “Bharosa” through a video conference. While inaugurating the helpline, Mr Pokhriyal lauded the initiative as it aims at providing mental and psychological assistance to the students of the institute. During the launch of “Bharosa” the minister said, “Addressing the mental health concern of students is of great importance and the helpline, 08046801010, introduced by the university, is a good initiative.” 

The minister also asked other central and state universities and institutions of higher education across the country to become a part of this initiative that will provide cognitive-emotional rehabilitation services to students.

The vice-chancellor of the Central University of Odisha Professor Ramabrahmam then highlighted the features of the helpline that is launched to address the problems of distressed students in the wake of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The professor said, "Bharosa" can address the concern of any student of any university in Odisha, and over 400 calls have been received in the pilot phase of the project.”

Dr Meena Hariharan, President, Association of Health Psychologists, the collaborating agency with the central university for the initiative, congratulated the authorities of the institute.

The initiative and the efforts of the university won accolades from the State Higher Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahoo. The minister appreciated the University’s step in such difficult times
