IAF signs Memorandum of Understanding with SPPU

The MoU will enable IAF officers to pursue higher studies and Doctoral Research in Defence & Strategic Studies and allied fields.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Savitribai Phule Pune University on academic grounds. As a unique initiative taken by the Indian Air Force (IAF), this academic collaboration has taken place between the two parties to establish a ‘Chair of Excellence’ at Department of Defence and Strategic Studies on February 29, 2020.

To pay tribute to the legend and show respect to the centenary birth year of the MIAF, the Indian Air Force has named its academic collaboration with SPPU as ‘Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Chair of Excellence’. The ‘Chair of Excellence’ will enable IAF officers to pursue higher studies and Doctoral Research in Defence & Strategic Studies and allied fields.

The Chair made from the collaboration of IAF and SPPU will facilitate higher studies and facilitate research in the area of National Defence and allied fields of Air Force Officers. It will also facilitate building a group of strategic thinkers and inculcate a strategic outlook. The Memorandum of Understanding signing ceremony was conducted under the authority of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, Shri Nitin Karmalkar. Air Marshal Amit Dev AVSM, VSM, Air Officer-in-Charge Personnel, Indian Air Force, garnered the MoU ceremony as the chief guest. Assistant Chief of the Air Staff (Education), Air Vice Marshal LN Sharma AVSM, and other senior IAF and University officials, also attended the ceremony where IAF collaborated with SPPU on academic grounds.

Established in 1949, Savitribai Phule Pune University, spread over a 411 acres campus and is home to 43 academic departments. The University is named after a 19th-century Indian social reformer, Savitribai Phule. The Indian social reformer is known for her contribution towards emancipation and empowerment of women through education. SPPU has affiliated departments, colleges, and research institutes, located primarily in Ahmednagar, Pune, and Nashik Districts.
