The collaboration will help equip IIT (BHU) students with strong knowledge and in-depth learning on advancements in materials engineering.

The Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) Varanasi is collaborating with Applied Materials India Pvt Ltd, the Indian subsidiary of materials engineering firm Applied Materials, Inc., to conduct semiconductor research.
The collaboration will help equip IIT (BHU) students with strong knowledge and in-depth learning on advancements in materials engineering.
“The collaboration will help boost our industry-academia relationship towards addressing materials engineering challenges in the semiconductor industry. We also look forward to help train young engineering students in this field of advanced technology,” Srinivas Satya, country president and managing director, Applied Materials India, said.

Teaming up with Applied Materials India will give IIT (BHU) access to expertise in materials engineering and semiconductor process technology.
Previously, Applied Materials India in collaboration with IIT (BHU) Varanasi sponsored characterisation equipment for the institute’s Central Instrument Facility which enabled students to get hands-on experience in structural characterisation of materials.
The research collaboration of IIT (BHU) Varanasi and Applied Materials India is an example of our commitment to strong industry-academia relations. The electronics industry is more important to the global economy than ever before, and the Government of India has attached high importance to electronics hardware as an essential pillar for both the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India’ programmes,” said Pramod Kumar Jain, Director, IIT (BHU) Varanasi.

Professor Rajiv Prakash, Dean, Research & Development, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, said, “The School of Materials Science and Technology at IIT (BHU) Varanasi has a long history of collaboration with Applied Materials India. Our latest engagement brings the relationship closer and strengthens the semiconductor research community.”
