IMA Opposes AYUSH Training For Medical Students
Indian Medical Association (IMA) has written a letter to National Medical Commission (NMC) showing its objection to medical students taking Ayush training.
IMA stated in the letter "It is not prudent for an Intern trained in modern medicine to partake and practice a system of medicine which he has not learned in under graduation with know-how and show-how paradigms".
IMA has termed this provision of including Ayush into allopathy as an attempt to start mixopathy. It also stated in the letter that it is contrary to the established norms and superfluous.
As per IMA, getting Ayush training for a week and mixing it with their allopathy knowledge can be dangerous to public health as the students have not learnt anything about Ayush related treatment during their education. The medical association has also raised doubts on the mentor at Ayush, they have questioned whether the Ayush mentors will be assessed by NMC faculty norms or not.
As per the national medical association, this one-week training in another system of medicine will only create confusion and will not fulfil any purpose of providing better health care to the public. It also asked the NMC faculty that are we adding agricultural science and engineering for a week for medical students for making them perfect human beings.
IMA is fearing the consequences later on including the attempts of introducing Ayush and other medicine systems inside the modern medical hospitals.
IMA has appealed for deleting Section 4.3 (17) that suggests a mandatory elective posting of medical students for one week to any one of the Ayush medicine available in the medical college.
