Interior designers help in planning out the layout of a house or an office space. The main task of an interior designer is to ensure that the area in hand is utilised in the best possible way. The most common and popular career profiles after pursuing an interior design course are to do interior design and interior decoration.

Interior designers are known to work in proximity with architects. An interior design graduate helps to plan out the layout of an establishment and also ensures that the interiors are aesthetically arranged.

The profiles one can pursue after studying interior designing are as mentioned below:

Interior Designers

Under this profile, one is expected to plan, design, and decide the interior structure of residential, commercial, or industrial buildings. They are responsible for providing adequate ventilation, drainage and water supply, electrical circuits and installations, air-conditioning and heating systems in a building.

Professionals working under this job profile are required to create practical and aesthetic designs that make working/living in the building/residential complex better.

Interior Decorators

Most people feel that Interior designers and Interior decorators perform the same function. However, this is far from the truth. While interior designers are expected to work on the construction or architecture of a building/office/house, on the other hand, interior decorators work on deciding colour schemes, layouts, wallpaper and furniture which clients should purchase and place in a particular space.

Interior decorators make sketches for the ideas they conceive and along with that, they present cost estimates to clients before beginning any project. They are also responsible for selecting paint colours, furniture, flooring, lighting, artwork, rugs, as well as any other accessory one, needs to place in their complex.  Interior decorators are also responsible for organising and supervising the arrangement as well as installation of furnishings.

Theatre/Set Designers

Set designers are responsible for creating the overall look of a film, television show, or theatre set. As part of their profession, they need to visualise what needs to be placed on a film set/stage. After this, they need to draw and make a dummy model of the set they wish to make. After this, the set is created at the actual location based on the scales specified in the dummy model. In the film and TV industry such professionals are referred to as production designers and in theatre are called stage designers.

Exhibition Designers

Under this job profile, one needs to create fixtures as well as display stands for events like large public exhibitions, trade shows, and conferences. Professionals under this job profile may also be expected to create temporary displays for museums, galleries, libraries, and offices.

In this job profile, one needs to present ideas in the form of sketches which are then converted into scale plans, computer-generated visuals and thereafter models.

Window/Display Designers

People who choose this profile as a profession need to create visual designs that promote and market a store's image, products as well as services. Window display designers or visual merchandisers, as they are often referred to as work closely with the store owner and the store’s marketing team so that the window display themes they formulate correspond with the current marketing strategy of the business for which they are working.
