In conversation with Shiksha.com, experts and faculty members of the ITM University, Gwalior talk about the various post-graduation diploma in management (PGDM) courses offered, career opportunities and future growth prospects after the completion of the course. 

Here is an edited excerpt of the conversation.

Q: How are masters in business administration (MBA) and PGDM courses different?

A: MBA courses are affiliated to universities where as PGDM is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). In terms of relevance, PGDM courses have higher weightage as compared to MBA courses because the curriculum is revised after every three years depending on the marketing standards wherein in MBA it changes after every 10 years.

Q: What are the important factors that should be considered before selecting a B-school?

A: Evaluate business school-based on rankings, accessibility and your specialisation choice and take admissions in the one that suits your needs.

Q: How student can prepare themselves for the Presentation & Personal Interview?

A: Students should make their presentation interesting by giving data and examples in their presentation and rehearsing it before coming in front of the panel. They should revise their basic and intermediate knowledge of their college and should be able to present themselves better.

Q: What are the average placements packages offered to MBA or PGDM students with Finance specialisation?

A: For students who have studied Finance at ITM can get a starting salary ranging between Rs 6.8-7.5 lakh per annum.

Q: Which specialisation to choose in MBA after engineering?

A: After completing a bachelor degree in engineering, a student could choose for a PGDM in Supply Chain and Operation Management course followed by Business Analytics. Else, if a student is a civil engineer and have interest in Finance, then they could opt for FinTech.

Q: What is the rank of ITM and what are the benefits that it offers over other institutes?

A: If you look at the rankings, ITM PGDM is the best ranked among these colleges. We are 14th as per times B-School survey. A: We have MBA programmes at our Raipur and Baroda University. We provide i-connect MBA at these Universities as well. The students have a choice to go to Mumbai for their internship. We have pool campus placements.

Q: What about other institutes in Mumbai such as SIES, DALMIA that offer PGDM courses in a similar fee range?

A: Placements at ITM are better when compared to SIES and at par with Dalmia for Finance and better for other specialisations.

Q: Could you give details about PGDM courses at ITM Chennai?

A: ITM Chennai offers a two-year full-time PGDM programme, with a fees of Rs 7.6 lakh. The average placement salary offered is Rs 6.5 lakh.

Q: How is ITM different from Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs)?

A: Well, IIMs are world-class institutes and they have a lot more budget for research. Not only that, they pick up the creme students with above 98 percentile scores and offer better infrastructure. We at ITM are striving to become the top-ranked college and are working towards it.

Q: What are the other post-graduate degree option than MBA?

A: You could opt for M.Com, LLM, M.A or M.Tech. It all depends on what you want to do.
