The Maharashtra government decided to promote all university students except the ones who are in the final year without any examination. According to the latest reports, while talking to the media, State Higher & Technical Education Minister Uday Samant announced the promotion of all the first year and second-year students without exams. The Minister said, “All university students in Maharashtra, except those in the final year, will be promoted to the next class without examination due to #COVID19 lockdown.”
However, the final year students are not given any relaxation from exams. Talking about the final year examinations, the Minister revealed, “The final year examinations will be held in July.” As the reports suggest, all the students of the first, second, third, and fourth semesters are now promoted to the next semester as conducting examinations is not possible for the authorities amid the nationwide lockdown.
With this, top universities of the state such as Mumbai University will now promote the first-year and second-year students. Revised date sheet for the final year students is awaited.
The academic institutions including all schools, colleges, universities are closed since the mid of March in order to contain the virus spread. On May 1, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced a further extension of the lockdown until May 17. With 10 days to go for the lifting of the nationwide lockdown imposed to slow the spread of coronavirus, speculation is rife on the possibility of an extension of lockdown in some areas of the country that are under 'Red Zones and have seen a surge in cases in the past week.
Maharashtra is one of the states that are severely affected due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the state is accounting for almost one-third of all COVID-19 cases in the country with the tally touching over 17,000 cases as of May 8. In the midst of the difficult times, conducting exams is no less than putting the lives of students and staff members at stake. In order to give some relief to the students, the state decided to take the big move.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra education board is all set to announce the board exam results soon. Students who appeared for the Maharashtra SSC board exams and Maharashtra HSC board exams can expect their Maharashtra SSC Result 2020 and Maharashtra HSC Result 2020 by June 10.
