The Ministry of Home Affairs has asked the educational institutions to maintain the academic calendar through online teaching. Read more below.
With the extension of the nationwide lockdown till May 3, 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued guidelines for the educational institutions. As per the guidelines, all the educational, training, coaching institutions, etc, shall remain closed till May 3, 2020. However, these establishments are expected to maintain the academic schedule through online teaching. The guidelines also mention that students should use Doordarshan (DD) and other educational channels for teaching purposes.
On the same, HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ said on Twitter that he met the Vice President of India Venkaiah Naidu on April 14 to discuss the academic sessions in the view of the Coronavirus Outbreak. He said that the discussions were held to ensure the continuity of the academic calendar. Leverage technology to enhance the teaching-learning process was also discussed along with discussions on prioritising the health of students residing in college campuses.

Earlier, the Vice President while interacting through a video conference with the Vice Chancellors of Delhi, Puducherry, Punjab, Makhanlal Chaturvedi Universities and Director of the Indian Institute of Public Administration, observed that it might take some more time for normalcy to return and enquired about their plans to cope with the disruption caused by COVID-19. He also emphasised on the use of technology to continue the teaching and learning process through the lockdown period. He also said that online courses would become the "new normal after we tide over the current crisis".
