Mumbai University terminated two teachers and canceled the recognition of paper-setting committee chairman for setting identical question papers.
Mumbai University (MU) took a rare move to send out a strong message to careless paper-setters by terminating the services of two teachers and canceling the recognition of one for three years. MU took this stern step after getting a complaint that the paper for statistics and probability examination, held on December 11, was similar to the one in May 2018.
The terminated teachers were in statistics and probability exam’s paper-setting committee for MCA semester-I students. The question paper set by the committee was identical to the question paper of the exam held on May 23, 2018. After an inquiry, the board of studies for MCA confirmed that the papers were identical. The confirmation made the university’s unfair means inquiry committee cancel the recognition of the paper-setting committee chairman for three years. This means that the teacher will not be able to teach for three years. The names of the teachers have not been disclosed due to the confidentiality of the examination process.
According to a reputed source, an official from the university said that the decision has been taken after a thorough inquiry to send out a strong message to the paper-setters. He also believes that this step will help to avoid such careless goof-ups in the future.
