To fulfil my dream of opening a chain of restaurants, I picked SBS to pursue Masters in Management, says Gautam
I was an average student scoring 80-85 per cent throughout till Class 10. As my scores were good and I also had an interest in Science, I opted to take up the science stream in my Class 11. But unlike any other science student who dreams of getting into IIT or any other top-notch engineering college, I had other dreams. I wanted to pursue a degree that would help me achieve my dream of opening up a chain of restaurants. After completing my schooling, I took admission in the International Institute of Hotel Management and after its completion, I got my first offer letter from The Oberois Hotel & Resorts and joined their Wildflower Hall hotel in Shimla as an OCER. I learned about hospitality and now I needed the knowledge of running a business. So my next aim was to pursue a post-graduation degree in management. After completing a year and a couple of months in the hotel, I decided to resign in order to join a management college.
I had resigned in the month of September and I knew I was pretty late for starting my preparation for the admission tests, but I managed to gather the resources through the Internet and my friends and started studying at home. As I did not want to waste a year, I decided to apply in all the management colleges and after the results
I should make a decision of which college I want to join. I appeared for a few nationally accepted qualifying exams such as ATMA and I was able to score 91 percentile. Basis the score, colleges such as WeSchool Mumbai, Christ Bangalore and Shanti Business School (SBS) contacted me for admission. Trust me, shortlisting the college is a very tough job. In the end, it was Shanti Business School which topped my pros and cons list and I decided to take my admission there. The entrance exam was then to be followed by an interview round and I was confident about that because of my prior work experience. Finally I got the admission in Shanti Business School.
Before joining the college, I had two things in my mind, that this is the last course I would be doing, so I have to enjoy every moment of it and I have to get into a top brand in the field of expertise. And, I did according to my plan, focused well and attended all my lectures and tried to learn as much I could but also lived my college life apart from studies. I was a part of the placements committee, took part in all the cultural activities, made few friends who have now become a part of my family, met some faculties who not only were my mentors during the time of college but became my mentor for life. The college has lived upto all my expectations. It has given me to perfect opportunity to grow, nurture my self with the right guidance from the facilities, gave the opportunity of interning at a brand like Asian Paints, where I would soon be joining as an employee.
