Our Faculty Has Crafted Distinctive Methods of Engagement, says Dr Kshitiz Sharma

 

In a conversation with Shiksha.com, Dr Kshitiz Sharma, Professor and Chair- IQAC at PG Department of Management Studies, ABBS School of Management talks about the teaching methodology at ABBS that stands as a testament to its commitment to providing a unique and enriching educational experience. 

Dr Kshitiz Sharma is a Professor and Chair- IQAC at PG Department of Management Studies. Dr Sharma is the author of books and many book chapters. He has published papers including research papers, articles and case studies in prestigious journals. 

 

Q1. What are the salient features of the teaching methodology adopted by your college? How does this differ from others?

Pedagogy is the reflection of the teaching-learning process in the organization. With a decade’s rich experience, the faculty of ABBS School of Management has developed some unique methods of engagement. The beginning of learning for the students starts with Industry driven strong Orientation program where Industry experts set the right note of aspirations for business graduates. During the course, academic experts from the department increase the momentum of teaching teaching-learning process with their inclusive teaching styles. Academic development is driven through a Competency framework, the four pillars of which are Knowledge- Attitude- Skill. To make learning effective Value Added Projects are regular features that students complete such as Industry Analysis, Dissertation, Business Plan, and Internship Projects along with live industry projects both online and offline. The use of technology is proving to be the differentiator for the learning design at ABBS School of Management. The assignment concepts like Overnight assignments, Video assignments, lab-driven practical assignments, and simulations fill students with awe and excitement. They love being part of the process. Every student is encouraged to capture additional certificates both from online and offline modes. ABBS School of Management is careful about the selection of course material. Harvard cases and articles are choices for class discussion. Learned members are not restricted to knowledge sharing only they are into knowledge development through research, case study and consulting work. They continuously update themselves to remain competent for the market requirements.

Q2.How are you preparing your students to be Industry-ready?

Industry Partnership is the key differentiating factor for us. It’s actually an industry that prepares students industry-ready along with teaching staff. The touch points are many. The strong alumni help in developing Industry connect. Our students are given exposure through Industry visits, Industry projects, CSR Projects, the TEDEX program at campus, Guest lectures, Placement preparation drives under guide ship of an Industry mentor and shadowing a CEO along with 4 months Industrial Internship Program.

Q3. What are the qualities you are looking for in student applicants? What qualities do they need to do well in your course?

There student scrutiny is done at multiple levels. There are some must haves and some future groomed abilities in students that ABBS look for. The essential quality is a good human being, though we are increasingly dealing with machines and digital technology but all these are for creating a better world for everyone. So this factor is very important. Attitude tops the chart of desired competency. Preferences are given to analytical abilities and presentation skill-set through verbal and non verbal capacity. Awareness of global affairs with social, political and technological development that are impacting businesses is a desirable skill set. Strong mental abilities are preferred over strong physical abilities.

Q4. How do you ensure that your course curriculum is up to date and meets industry requirements?

Content is the necessary fuel for academics. ABBS believes that to win any battle latest tools should be available in armory; similarly latest academic resources are added to ABBS academic repository. Quality Assurance Cell ensures a mechanism of course review through internal and external audit. The audit findings are discussed in Board of Studies meeting. Recommendations of BOS are incorporated in the Curriculum every two year.

Q5. Is your college receptive to innovation, technology, science & entrepreneurship? How? Could you cite some examples of these?

The management program at ABBS includes various club activities like M- Club, Sea Club, Adventure Club, E-Cell. These clubs ensures that new development in innovation, technology, entrepreneurship etc familiarized with students and encourage them to take up new business opportunity. Students are prepared to take part in various management fest and competition which is the unique opportunity for business students to learn, innovate, create and showcase their talent.
