He told reporters at Gobichettipalayam in the district that 313 students would get medical seats and 92 at dental colleges, including 55 from Erode district alone.

Tamil Nadu Minister of School Education K A Sengottiyan has said that over 400 students from the government schools in the state will be getting medical college seats under the 7.5 per cent reservation. He told reporters at Gobichettipalayam in the district that 313 students would get medical seats and 92 at dental colleges, including 55 from Erode district alone.

While speaking on conducting the public examinations for Class 10 to 12 students, he said that the state government will announce the date for the public exams by December-end. Tamil Nadu is the only state in the country to implement 7.5 per cent reservation, the Minister said.

With the consent given by the governor Banwarilal Purohit after what the opposition parties called much delay, the state government issued a GO to implement the quota regime from the current 2020-21 academic year itself.

Earlier, Sengottaiyan inaugurated the drinking water supply scheme to the residents of Pariyur Nanjagoundenpalayam residents. District Collector C Kathiravan was also present on the occasion.

The Madurai bench of Madras High Court has earlier suggested the Tamil Nadu government to reopen the schools and colleges across the state after December. The state government on November 12, revoked its earlier order to reopen the schools for Classes 9 to 12 from November 16. The decision was taken by the government after most of the parents expressed their opinion against schools reopening in the state amid the pandemic.

The bench remarked that in a time when even judges are getting infected due to coronavirus, the reopening of educational institutions can be pushed to after December. The court also advised the state government to take a decision keeping in mind the situation of students in other states and the state of the pandemic there.
