Tripura government has announced that it will provide an allowance of Rs 35,000 to 8,882 teachers who have lost their jobs after their recruitment was termed faulty by the Supreme Court.
Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb said that his government will provide an allowance of Rs 35,000 per month to all those teachers who have lost their jobs after their recruitment process was termed faulty by the Supreme Court.
The employment term of 8,882 teachers expired on March 31, 2020.
The Minister said that " Out of all 10,323, many of the teachers have got jobs, however, there are still 8,882 of them who didn't get any job. The term of employment for them has expired on March 31. To help them the state government has decided to give them a monthly allowance of Rs 35,000."
The state government has filed a plea before the Supreme Court (SC) to recruit them in the non-teaching category.
Amid the ongoing 21-days nationwide coronavirus lockdown, the petition was filed through an e-mail, he said.
While giving assurance to the teachers, he said, the government is trying its best to help them and will continue to give allowance until the SC gives its verdict.
Since 2010, a total of 10,323 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate teachers were appointed in different phases. The recruitment process was later terminated by Tripura High Court, saying that the recruitment was unconstitutional.
The then Left Front government moved to the SC against the order but it upheld the high court verdict in March 2017.
The teachers were asked to retire after December 31, 2017, as per the verdict announced apex. After this, they were inducted on an ad-hoc basis.
In 2018, when the BJP-IPFT government came to power, it had again appealed to the apex court, and they were granted a one-time final extension till March 31, 2020.
