India is observing "Amrit Mahotsav", a 75-week long commemoration in the run-up to the 75th anniversary of its independence next year. The Prime Minister made this appeal during a breakfast he had hosted for the players at his residence.

According to the reports, the champion players also presented the Prime Minister with gifts of their sporting equipment. Reports reveal that the PM received a javelin from Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, bronze medallist P V Sindhu her badminton racquet, men's and women's hockey team an autographed hockey stick each, C A Bhavani her sword while Lovlina Borgohain her boxing gloves.

The men's hockey team and Ms Borgohain had won bronze in their respective contests. Autographed stoles were also gifted to PM Modi by all Olympic medal winners. PM Modi said that one of the positives of the Tokyo Olympics is that the attitude of parents towards sports is changing, and he envisions a lot more parents supporting their children to pursue sports.

While making requests to the players to visit schools and spread awareness, the PM noted that Parents liking sports is a great sign for the future. He further added that the visits by the players to school, suggestions to the students about ways to eliminate malnutrition and playing a sport with them during the visit will go a long way in encouraging them.

Indian athletes returned from Tokyo with the country's best-ever haul of seven medals, including javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's historic gold in track and field. PM Modi lauded the performance of Indian players in the Olympics and invited them over to the Independence Day ceremony at the Red Fort on Sunday.
