Post Doctoral Fellowship Amount revised by UGC, amount to be in effect from 2019 January 1

The fellowship amount for the different Post-Doctoral Fellowship Schemes is now revised by the University Grants Commission. Read further to know the changes in the fellowship amount. 

The University Grants Commission revised the fellowship amount for the different Post-Doctoral Fellowship Schemes. The Fellowship amount is increased for the Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences programmes. On May 14, 2020, a meeting was conducted to decided new rates for the PDF schemes. According to the official statement, the revised rates for the fellowships will be in effect from January 1, 2019. 

Post-Doctoral Fellowship Schemes Revised Amount 2020

The fellowship amount for the first year is now increased from Rs 43,000 to Rs 47,000, while for the second year the rates are increased from Rs 45,000 to Rs 49,000. The third year fellowship amount is increased from Rs. 46,5000 to Rs. 54,000. 

With regard to the fellowship spanning years, the candidates will receive Rs. 47,000 and Rs. 49,000 in the first two years respectively while from the third year onwards Rs. 54,000 will be awarded for the candidates.

The reports suggest that the revised amount will be applicable for the fellowships like Post Doctoral Fellowship for SC/ ST, Sr. DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship, Dr. S Radhakrishnan Post Doctoral Fellowship and Post Doctoral Fellowship for Women.

The Contingency Grant for the Dr DS Kothari Post Doctoral Fellowship is Rs 1,00,000 annually while the other fellowships listed will get a contingency grant of Rs 50,000 per annum. 

Earlier the revised fellowship amount for Junior Research Fellows from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 31,000 while for the Senior Research Fellows the grant is revised from Rs. 28,000 to Rs. 35,000. 

Revised Fellowship Amount for Research Associates

The Fellowship for Research Associates is also revised by the University Grants Commission. According to the revised amounts, the Research Associate 1 is increased from Rs 36,000 to Rs 43,000. The fellowship amount for Research Associate II is now increased from Rs. 38,000 to Rs. 49,000 and the fellowship amount for Research Associate III is increased from Rs 40,000 to Rs 54,000.
