Earlier, problems had cropped up between the Mizoram Independent School Association (MISA), an umbrella body of all private schools in the state, and the students' bodies in the state after the private school's decision to charge fees from students during the lockdown.

The students' bodies had requested private school authorities to not charge any fees from students during the lockdown period, especially those belonging to poor families who are undergoing tremendous pressure and hardship during this trying time.

After a meeting between the officials of the education department, students’ bodies, Mizoram Independent School Association (MISA), and other stakeholders, it was decided that the private schools around the state will charge only 50 percent of fees from students for the lockdown period, the official said.

All private and mission schools run by churches have also been asked to exempt poor students from paying fees, he said.
